It is my great honour to bring you my first brochure as the newly appointed manager at the Ramor Theatre. It is a role which I am very much looking forward to and one which I am extremely excited about. I am only too well aware of the magnitude of the task to fill the shoes of the previous Manager, Mary Hanley.
Mary gave so much to the Ramor Theatre during her tenure here, building it up from scratch to the wonderful venue we have today. I know all the acts that performed here, along with all the people she worked with both on and off the stage and you the audience wish her a long healthy and happy retirement. We are all forever in your debt, Mary in what you have left us with at The Ramor. I want to thank the staff at the Ramor, Nuala, Frances, Paddy, Annette and Helen for the welcome they have given me and their help getting settled in and getting this brochure together.
It would be amiss of me not to mention the late Pat Sharkey who worked here at the theatre for many years. He was a firm favourite with visiting artists and audiences alike. Pat was a true gentleman and a great supporter of mine in everything I did. May his gentle soul Rest In Peace.
Our new brochure and program of events for January, February, March and April is one we here at the Ramor are very proud of and excited about. We have some of the best talent in workshops, theatre, music, comedy and art, coming to visit our theatre in early 2018. Our music program caters for all tastes with The Fureys, Declan Nerney, Mozart by Candlelight, The Lost Brothers, Jack L, Mick Flavin, Don Baker and Rob Strong and last but not least the legend that is Sharon Shannon all coming to Virginia for intimate concerts.
Our film season kicks off on Tuesday 16th with Show Day a film by local man Alan Bradley which is based around the famous Virginia Show. This is a free event but booking is essential. The same night sees the opening of an Exhibition by local based artist Eleanor Thompson. Our film season continues each Tuesday night with modern films like La La Land, classics like Cinema Paradiso and the Irish hit film of the year Maze. This season also sees the introduction of Kids film at The Ramor with Up, Frozen and The Lion King running on one Saturday Morning in January, February and March.
Theatre this season offers a wide variety of diverse plays including Shercock Group Sillan Players with Michael Hardings, Una Pooka, Beezneez with The Drawer Boy, Sliabh Glah with the hilarious comedy Caught in the Net, Bow productions with the funny and poignant The Vagina Monologues, The Virginians with the Sean O’Casey classic Juno and the Paycock. No program of theatre would be complete without the wonderful Seamus O’Rourke with his new play From Under the Bed.
The now world famous theatrical extravaganza Swan Lake/Loch na hEala by Micheal Keegan-Dolan is certainly a highlight and in a new departure for The Ramor, in taking a production off-site to Killinkere Leisure Centre. This play won best production at The Irish Times Awards in 2017 and has already toured to Dublin Theatre Festival, Sadler’s Wells, London and Sydney Opera House. It will play the Abbey Theatre, Dublin before the visit to Killinkere and then on to Wellington, New Zealand. It is a really coup for us to get this production which I have seen myself and I can say it is truly a stunning piece of theatre which is set in the Midlands of Ireland.
This is one certainly not to be missed. I hope there is something in this brochure to suit your taste. I wish you all a very Happy Christmas. Thank you so much for your custom in 2017. We look forward to seeing you all at The Ramor in the New Year. Remember there is nothing like a Live Performance!
